Wildlife

These past couple of weeks have been very busy. We've had some new doors and windows installed, and gates outside, and various other bits and pieces. Since I'm the unemployed half of the equation, I got to stay home with the workmen, fetching tea. (Apparently it's expected that you keep them topped up on the beverage of their choice - who knew?). So, I'll be posting pictures of all that stuff soon. No, really.

So, today, Stephen comes in and asks if I've ever seen this lizard, a goanna, and would I like a picture for the blog. Apparently if you have them in your garden( or yard for you Yanks), then you don't have snakes. So. Goanna=good. I said no, and he brought me outside to show me one sunning himself in the driveway. I'm expecting a lizard, maybe something like a gecko. I come around the corner and see...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

It's about 10 inches long by 3 or 4 inches wide.( Stephen says they can get up to 14 inches). Geez louise, I wasn't ready for that. I had to sit down. If the garden (yard) is full of these, guess which one of us will be hanging out the laundry this summer?

Catching Up

Just posting random news that I haven't gotten to. Remember I was trying to find an American newspaper? Well, Stephen went and ordered a subscription to the NY Times, Sunday edition. Isn't that amazing? I'm so excited to get it every week, and sit down with a cup of coffee and read the paper.

We found a dining table. It's made of Jarrah, which is a native wood.


(also another shot of my gorgeous flowers). It seats 8, and it's absolutely perfect.

I noticed that Mr. Tabby was putting on weight, and at first I thought he was two-timing me, cadging scraps from someone else. It quickly became obvious, however, that the Mr. is actually a Miss, and had got herself in the family way. She gave birth about a week ago. I haven't seen her in a few days, though, so I hope she's o.k.

Pretty Birdie

I've been putting out bird seed to attract the wild birds. My brilliant other half suggested putting out some fruit, and look who showed up:


This is a Galah, commonly called a Pink and Gray because, well, they're pink and gray. Quite large, too. I love watching the birds out back, it's like an episode of Wild Kingdom.
