Making Some Changes

It looks as if we might finally be starting on the renovation work. The stove is almost as old as I am, and so is the wallpaper. And did I mention the lavender toilet? No. Really. It's lavender. And the sink matches.

I've been doing some gardening. The back yard (well, the whole yard, really) is madly overgrown. So, I'm doing it in stages. I planted some bouganvilla (sp?) against the back fence. When we rolled up to the counter with 8 plants, the nice lady at the garden center asked "Who are you trying to keep out?" "The neighbors" I replied. They have two of the sweetest Golden Retrievers there. That's really why I go there, to play with the dogs.

We did some sightseeing yesterday, a drive out to the country. I'll post pictures later.

Thanks for your suggestions about newspapers. It probably won't surprise you to learn that they aren't available here. I'm determined to figure something out, though.

Stephen gets a newspaper from Britain, it's available on newsstands here, that is a weekly digest of news. I really wish there was such a thing for the U.S. Or maybe there is, and I just don't know about it. The only American paper available here is...wait for it... The National Enquirer. I laughed so hard when I first saw that. I can (and do)keep up with U.S. news online, but I still like to have a newspaper to read, you know?
Speaking of newspapers. A couple of days ago, a water main burst down in the city. Big deal, you say? Well, it flooded half the city before they got the water shut off. (Remember what I've said about their efficiency here?)And, part of the highway is still shut, I think. So the headline in today's paper was "The Day Perth Stood Still!" We both had a laugh over that. A broken water pipe brought the city to a grinding halt.

I just figured out how to show more pictures. I can only put up one with each post, but if you click on the picture, or the title of the picture, it will take you to where I have the pictures stored (on another website), and you can work your way through them. So, I'm excited about that.
I forgot to mention about my dentist visit on Tuesday. I've been having major excavation in my mouth, and so many fillings. Seriously, about a dozen. Now it seems that I have to have a root canal. They call it a root filling here. And, my tooth that's missing, is more than likely going to stay missing. An implant means surgery, and to get a bridge would mean losing a couple of good teeth. ARRRGH! Well, I'll be happy to have it all done, at any rate. It would have been quicker, and easier, and cheaper to pull them all, and get dentures.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

I have to apologize for the long wait between posts. It's been sort of crazy here. Winter is here, which means rain, and lots of it. *sigh* All of the patio furniture is assembled- 8 chairs, table, and 2 benches. I even got most of it treated before the rain started. I'm really very proud of myself.
Anyhoo, this is a picture of a magpie, taken out on the back patio. The parrots have gone on vacation, I'm hoping they decide to come back. All we get these days are pigeons.
The finale of The Amazing Race was Tuesday(the best reality show on tv). And, I was online immediately after it finished airing, to find out who won. Even though I was spoiled, and already knew who won months ago. The finish line was in Fort Lauderdale, of all places. Here in Australia, the season has just started airing, so I get to watch it all over again. Australian drama isn't up to much, so I end up watching a lot of CSI. It's on like 3 nights a week here. It's strange, the tv stations are even casual about the start times of the shows. The time listed in the tv guide turns out to be a rough estimate. Who knew?
I'm still waiting for my stuff to be delivered. I packed it up a year ago, thinking I'd be seeing it again in a few months, tops. A year later, still waiting, but at least it's in the same country. I also figured we'd have the kitchen remodeled by now, so it's probably just as well I don't have it.
I really miss my cd's, though.
